The Fourth Annual Empty Bowls event held Sunday October 5th at the Italian Community Center in Troy was a great success. Members from the Collar City Clay Guild and area potters worked hard to make over 1,600 unique and one of a kind soup bowls for the event, which raised $21,090. The event included soups and chowders from 14 area restaurants including Red Beet Soup, Pumpkin Bisque, Pasta e Fagioli, Indian Red Lentil, among many others. Event goers were also offered cookies, bread, and drinks, donated by additional local orchards and bakeries.
While the simple meal was served inside, Caraoke Cass provided upbeat and festive music outside as onlookers watched pottery demonstrations given by students from Emma Willard and Skidmore College. Event organizers from the Collar City Clay Guild, TAP Inc., and the Italian Community Center estimate that over 1,400 people attended the event to raise much needed funding for 15 area food programs.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Bethany Center, Commission on Economic Opportunity, Hope 7 Community Center, Joseph’s House, St. Mary’s Church, Roarke Center, Troy Damien Center, Unity House, Italian Community Center, Troy Larger Parish Food Pantry, Troy YWCA, CCRC Food Pantry, REACT Inc., St. Joseph’s Church, Provisions Community Food and Storehouse.
Organizers are already beginning to plan next year’s event.
